Cap 10-30 mm tall x 5-20 mm broad when young, elongate- conical to ovoid and covered with white floccose-fibrillose tufts of "hairs,” expanding at maturity to obtusely conical to campanulate, 30-50 mm broad, glabrous and often devoid of Viel hairs, striate, grayish brown to brown centrally, margin gray. Gillss free, crowded, narrow, white or gray then becoming black, quickly deliquescent. Stem 50-150 x 3-4 mm (apex) x 5-10 mm (base), gradually enlarged downward, then tapered to a rooting base below ground, fibrillose, white. Spore Deposit black. Edibility: edible.
