Cap 50-80 mm broad, subcylindrical to campanulate when young, expanding to broadly convex or plane with a broad umbo, dry, minutely velvety in the center, breaking up into flattened squamules towards the nonstriate margin, white with reddish brown to grayish brown center and squamules. Gills free,close, broad, white. Stem 30-75 x 8-12 mm, cylindrical or enlarged towards the subbulbous base, fibrous, white, with a small persistent annulus near the apex. Flesh and surface of cap, gills, and stem quickly turn yellow then red when cut; fruiting bodies dry dark reddish brown. Spore deposit white. Edibility: unknown.
