Cap 30-40 mm broad x 60-100 mm tall, ellipsoidal to obtusely conical, base of cap remains adhered to stem; surface dry, shiny, glabrous, fragile and papery, white to pale cream, breaking up into fibrous scales and sloughing in age. Gleba powdery or stringy-powdery, dark brown to black. Stem 60-80 x 6-10 mm, cylindrical with a basal bulb, dry, hard and woody, fibrous, striate, white to yellowish brown. Spores dark brown to black. Edibility: unknown.
